Hawthorne Nathaniel Hawthorne, an American novelist lived from 1804 to 1864. Hawthorne’s works are slurredly implicated with the respectable problems of sin, punishment, and atonement. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1825 and returned to his Salem category livelihood in semi-seclusion and writing.
